Surah Al Ikhlas

Surah Al Ikhlas is the 112th chapter of the holy Quran. The term Al-Ikhlaṣ is an Arabic word meaning purity, sincerity, honesty, integrity, allegiance, and faithfulness. This chapter of the Quran has four verses that focus on the unity of God. In contrast to other Surahs, there is no assigned word apparition in this Surah. It means that the word Ikhlas is not mentioned anywhere however the chapter has been given the name based on its subject and learnings.

This Surah is believed to have been revealed during the Quraysh conflict with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) when they challenged the distinguishing attributes of the god worshipped by the Prophet.

Importance of Surah Ikhlas

Although each word of the Holy Quran is pure. However, there are some parts that are of greater significance than others. This is not because of any personal choice but it’s evident from the hadith and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, that peace and blessings be upon him. It is believed that reciting Surah Ikhlas brings a reward equivalent to reciting one-third of the Quran.

The reason is that all the teachings of the Quran are essentially based on three principles and the first one is the oneness of God. Surah Al Ikhlas put the emphasis on the idea of Allah’s oneness and disapproves of idol worshipping Hence it lays significant on the fact that Surah Ikhlas is the fundamental base of the religion of Islam. And it affirms belief in Allah’s oneness. Reciting this chapter boosts one’s perception and intelligence. It gives satisfaction and solution to most personal and professional problems.

Surah Ikhlas Benefits

Surah al Ikhlas hold great importance in Islamic contests. By reciting Surah Ikhlas, one gets unbound happiness in life and many other benefits which are listed below:

  1. Protection from calamities: Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas regularly protects from any disaster or difficulty.
  2. Seizes evil spell or black magic: Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas daily after each prayer destroys evil spells or any black magic.
  3. Forgives Sin: If one reads Surah Al-Ikhlas diligently. It becomes easy for us to repent and seek forgiveness for our sins
  4. Helps achieve goals: All desires and dreams are fulfilled by God if Surah Al-Ikhlas is read with pure consciousness.
  5. Secures place in heaven: According to the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, a person who recites Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad ten times, Allah creates a home for him in heaven.
  6. Professional growth and creation of wealth: Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas escalates professional growth and improves the financial condition.
  7. Equivalent to the reading of one-third of the Quran: Reading Surah al-Ikhlas is the same as reading one-thirds of the Holy Quran.
  8. Eases the pain of death: It is believed that one is relieved from the fear and pain of death by reading Surah al-Ikhlas.

Surah Al Ikhlas Hadiths

There are several Hadiths that highlight the significance and benefits of Surah Al Ikhlas. Some of these are:

Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi, “Say Surat Al Ikhlas and al-Mu’awwidhatayn three times in the morning and the evening; they will suffice you from everything.”

Aisha narrated, “Whenever the Prophet went to bed every night, he cupped his hands together and blew over them after reciting Surah Al Ikhlas, Surah an-Nas and Surah al-Falaq. Then, he rubbed his hands over every part of his body he could, starting with his face, head, and front. He did those three times every night.”

Imam Ahmad recorded Ibn ‘Umar saying, “I watched the Prophet reciting twenty-four or twenty-five times in the two Rak’ahs before the morning prayer and the two Rak’ahs after the sunset prayer, say: O ye infidels! (Surah Al-Kafirun) and say: He is Allah, one.”

Imam Malik ibn Anas recorded that Ubayd bin Hunayn said that he heard Abu Hurayrah saying, “I went out with the Prophet, and he heard a man reciting Surah Al Ikhlas. So, the prophet said: It is obligatory. I asked: ``What is obligatory?” and he replied: Paradise.”

According to the above-listed Hadith, it is important for all Muslims to understand the significance of Surah al-Ikhlas and recite it regularly to receive the desired rewards.
